Nicaragua
Nicaragua, the second country on our gringo-trail backpacking trip. Land of the
Nicaraguan Cordoba (£1 = C$40 / $1 = C$30.5), volcanic islands, volcano boarding, colonial architecture, Sunday Funday and very good cheap rum.

Sunday Funday in San Juan Del Sur
 |
Sunday Funday |
Whether you're travelling up or down, you'll constantly see people wearing Sunday Funday tops at the beach. Where do they come from? THE gringo party in Central America: the
Sunday Funday Pool Crawl in San Juan Del Sur.
Sunday Funday consists of all-day drinking, meeting many other travellers, riding between hostels in the back of a truck, and watching the sunset from
The Naked Tiger.
Not a traditional, cultural Nicaraguan experience, but still worth doing! We had an amazing time and met some really fab people.
Oja de Agua in Ometepe

Ometepe Concepción Volcano |

Oja de Agua |
Ometepe - an island made from two volcanoes! Some people skip it, but if you have spare time it's a nice place to visit.
You can hike the volcanoes, it's full of ancient
petroglyphs, and
Oja de Agua natural swimming pool is really beautiful.
Grand Granada

Beautiful colonial architecture, day-trip to the crater lake
Laguna de Apoyo, and party in a
tree-house! (
that has a really good cat - trust me to find the cat)

Zooming through Léon

Cerro Negro Volcano Boarding - zooming at 30mph thinking I was going to die |
Although we went to the cinema in Léon to see Spiderman (enchilada popcorn is v weird), the main thing to do in Léon is volcano boarding.

We stayed at the fab: 🏡 -
Bigfoot Hostel , and you can do the boarding with them, but we went down the street to
Volcano Day.
Zooming down the live Cerro Negro Volcano at 30mph thinking I was actually going to die - such fun! Really attractive yellow outfits too.
